Men's Singles
Defending champion and world number one, Roger Federer dashed Andre Agassi's hopes of a final US Open crown when he defeated the legendary Las Vegan in four sets, 6-3 2-6
7-6(7-1) 6-1.
The 24-year-old Swiss 'precision machine' looked to be in a bit of trouble in the second and third sets, but then found blistering form in the tie break to claim his 6th Grand Slam title.
At 35, Agassi is the oldest finalist to take centre stage at Flushing Meadows since the renowned Ken Rosewall beat American Jimmy Connors in 1974 at the age of 39!
"For me this was the most special Grand Slam final in my career," said Federer afterwards. "To play against Andre in New York, it's a dream."
Women's Singles
Belgian Kim Clijsters ended her quest for her first Grand Slam title when she crushed Mary
Pierce of France in straight sets, 6-3 6-1.
Clijsters, the 2005 US Open tennis champion who dominated from the off-set, has lost in four previous Grand Slam finals, but this year she has found great form and claimed her seventh title of 2005 with her 17th consecutive win.
She was also the winner of the US Open Series and consequently walked away with double the prize money - US$ 2.2million.
"She's a great girl, you know," said Pierce, magnanimous in defeat. "She's a champion. She's been number one in the world, now she has a Grand Slam title to her name. I'm happy for her."
Men's Doubles
American twins, Bob and Mike Bryan punished top seeds Jonas Bjorkman of Sweden and Max Mirnyi of Belarus with a straight-sets victory in New York. Their conquest was even sweeter as the Bjorkman/Mirnyi tandem had denied them their second Grand Slam title at Roland Garros earlier in the year.
The Bryan brothers made it to all four finals but lost at Melbourne, Paris and London. They saved their year with a dominant 6-1 6-4 display at Flushing Meadows, adding a second Grand Slam title to their 2003 French Open crown.
Women's Doubles
Lisa Raymond of American and her Australian partner Samantha Stosur claimed their fifth victory when they beat the 14th seeds Elena Dementieva of Russia and Italy's Flavia Pennetta, 6-2 5-7 6-3.
Raymond and Stosur, seeded sixth for the tournament, have only been together since July this year, and although they have had a slow start to their joint career, the 2005 US Open tennis champions are improving all the time.
Mixed Doubles
Daniela Hantuchova and Mahesh Bhupathi defeated Slovenia's Katarina Srebotnik and Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia and Montenegro, 6-4 6-2, at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
In doing so, Hantuchova completed the set of Grand Slam mixed doubles titles adding the US Open crown to her 2004 French Open, 2002 Australian Open and 2001 Wimbledon titles.
